This class involves examples of 605's movement vocabulary from past repertoire, as well as improvisation structures, combining techniques and styles found inside 605's working language. Designed to build strength, speed and efficient movement patterning, exercises will acknowledge the weight of the body, both resting and moving through space, to utilize instinctual pathways and the natural momentum that this weight creates. Participants will be exploring the body's relationship with the floor, articulation and isolations of body parts at various levels, and how to safely carry out large, athletic movements while maintaining raw and powerful execution.
Led by artistic co-directors Lisa Gelley and Josh Martin, Company 605 is dedicated to producing new dance work through a shared creative process. As part of a generation of creators inspired by the merging of urban and contemporary forms, 605 places emphasis on movement innovation and physically demanding works, valuing collaboration as an essential tool for new directions in dance. With a rapidly expanding repertoire, 605 has performed from coast to coast in over 30 cities across Canada, and has been presented as part of many notable festivals in the US, Central America, and in Europe.
