‘make me cry’ by Tia Ashley Kushniruk 亚女弟 is a solo response to the exhibition dance work ‘make banana cry’ by Andrew Tay and Stephen Thompson. Using projection, self interviews and personal movement material, ‘make me cry’ attempts to identify when the fetish starts, and where it ends.

Tia Ashley Kushniruk 亚 女弟 is a first gen mixed race (Chinese/Ukrainian) dance/theatre artist. Since 2013 she has been affiliated with the Cirque Du Soleil and is a frequent collaborator of Jake W. Hastey for Toy Guns Dance Theatre. She has had the pleasure of performing works of Antony Hamilton(chunkymove), Paul Andre-Fortier, Benjamin Kamino, Heidi Strauss, Peggy Baker, Christopher House(TDT), Shay Kuebler, Christianne Ullmark, Susie Burpee and Jasmyn 'Jaz Fairy J' Fyffe - touring Nationally across Canada and Internationally to Israel, U.S.A, Colombia, China, Austria and France. Her work has been presented by Festival Internacional Nomada, Dancing on the Edge, Fluid Festival , Mile Zero, the School of TDT, Found Festival, and Expanse. She is the first recipient of the Catalyst Confluence Fellowship,a 2023 EATF recipient and is currently undergoing a mentorship with Toronto-based performance artist Bridget Moser.
