Silvering: In Community
An installation of aging as physical artistry
Taking place throughout Contemporary Calgary during Free First Thursday in November, Silvering: In Community invites audiences into an evening of performance, movement and conversation that reframes aging as a source of creativity, connection and possibility.
Throughout the building, professional elder dancers and dance-curious community participants appear in unexpected encounters including performances, conversations and shared experiences that respond to the architecture and artworks, and invite audiences to experience the gallery as a place where age is embodied, celebrated and experienced.
As part of Fluid Fest, Silvering: In Community brings artists and community together to explore how the body continues to create, communicate and connect throughout life. Audiences are invited to move, encounter and participate.
Featured artists in the community show include:
Claudia Jane Moore | For the Trees is an immersive, site-responsive dance work that brings dancers, music and the natural environment into conversation. The work grew from Moore’s ongoing engagement with community dancers, particularly dancers aged 55+, and explores the forest through movement, sound and embodied attention.
Kyrsten Blair | Dance Through the Decades brings Kyrsten Blair together with members of the Free House Dance Plus Active Adults community in a celebration of movement, memory, music, and connection. Drawing on a range of dance forms and music from across generations, the work invites audiences to consider dance not as something we grow out of, but as a lifelong practice of curiosity, expression, play, and belonging.

Silvering: Bodies of Experience—A multi-bill mainstage performance taking place at DJD theatre November 6th and 7th.
Silvering: In Community—A choose-your-own-adventure encounter with offerings and experiments for, and by, older dancers at Contemporary Calgary’s Free First Thursday, November 5th.
