Hands-on weekend workshop.

Nuts and Bolts of Placemaking with Mark Lakeman and Friends

We are profoundly excited to offer this unique workshop with one of the pioneers of placemaking!

As change makers, activists and solutionaries we recognize the need for sustainability on a local and global level and one might say that the greatest transformation starts right where we are.

How can we more actively create positive change in our own neighbourhoods?  How can we tap into the resources that are abundant all around us while getting to know each other and openly sharing what we have?  How can we creatively come together to build safe environments where everyone can thrive together?

Join Mark Lakeman and friends on a weekend journey through the nuts and bolts of placemaking.

Mark Lakeman is a visionary when it comes to community building.  With a deep passion for connecting with people and someone who truly cares about the planet, he brings a creative twist to placemaking.  Mark will be joined by one of his Planet Repair partners Mighk Simpson as well as local community experts Alla Guelber, Natalia Zoldak, Lindsay Meads and Kym Chi.

Over one weekend you will enjoy the company of other local leaders while participating in dynamic activities that will help gain a deeper understanding of how we can better engage with our local communities to increase interaction, creativity and cooperation, thus providing resiliency.

This adventure has been designed for individuals or groups who want to make change at a grassroots level with the participation of neighbours and friends and through the deepening of relationships where they live.

Together we will learn:
-The foundations of placemaking
-How to build more functional and creative relationships
-How to more deeply engage with our communities
-How to assess the needs and wants of the neighbourhoods we live in
-To create our own placemaking activities or initiatives
-Ways to overcome and work with City bylaws and ordinances

To close our time together we will put our skills into action and facilitate a public placemaking festival at the ContainR site!

Please come and play with us on this amazing learning experience.
