COME ONE, COME ALL! And experience a weekend of culture, community, and heroics at ContainR. Join us September 26th-28th as Springboard Performance will host the first ever “We Can Be Heroes” weekend to help YYC celebrate the seventh annual Alberta Culture Days!
The creation of Culture Days has helped raise awareness, ease accessibility, promote participation, and engage all audiences in community arts and culture; and at ContainR we’ve created the perfect environment inspired by all the vibrant personalities that share in these objectives!
As our Artistic Director Nicole Mion has said before, “every ancient town in Europe has a courtyard, which brings the community together to hang out,” and at ContainR we’ve created just that! Lets bring together our inner heroes and share in a weekend that will be sure to spark child-like wonder, conjure fantastical performances, and bring together the best that Kensington has to offer.
But what does being a hero mean to you? Whether it’s taking part in an elaborate night of cos-play and joining MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online role-playing fames) for ContainR’s first ever LAN (Local Area Network) party, or supporting the local urban village that is Kensington’s Business Revitalization Zone; there are so many ways to show your inner Hero.
Come enjoy live performances from musicians Kris Demeanor and his Crack Band, The Plaid Tongue Devils, and Freak Motif, wordsmith chantrese Sheri-D Wilson, dance-extraordinaires La Caravan and Tangy Lime Productions, and DJ____. Take part in a cos-play dance, browse the market, or simply kick back at a Village Brewery patio. Don’t forget the kids! Join in events for all ages, stories & games with the Calgary Public Library, and play dress-up with the Calgary Fire Department and Police Department.
Lets talk about heroes in our community, heroes across cultures, through history, and in myths. Lets explore the realm of art and culture in our city, and let's remember what is it we’ve been celebrating since the beginning of time!
